Weekly Review

Skill

Runs your personal weekly review in thirty disciplined minutes: the week audited against what you intended, the next week shaped before it shapes you, and the open loops captured out of your head — the operating ritual that compounds.

Best for

  • Weeks that end in 'where did it go?'
  • Founders and leads whose priorities are set by whoever emailed last
  • Building the one ritual that keeps the system honest

What you give it

  • Twenty-thirty minutes, your calendar and task reality, and honesty about what actually happened

What you get back

  • The audit: what you intended versus what occurred — and the pattern over weeks (the recurring thief, the always-slipping category) that single weeks cannot show
  • Next week shaped: the one-to-three outcomes that matter chosen BEFORE the calendar fills, the big blocks placed, the overcommitment caught on Friday instead of lived on Wednesday
  • The loops closed: the open items captured from head, inbox and pockets into the system — and the drop list: what you are explicitly not doing, decided instead of discovered

How it works

  1. Audits intention against reality: not a guilt session — a data session; what was planned, what happened, where the gap came from (interruption, overcommitment, avoidance — they have different fixes), with the multi-week pattern as the real prize.
  2. Shapes before the week arrives: the one-to-three outcomes named first, then the calendar audited against them — the Friday decline is cheap, the Wednesday resentment is not.
  3. Empties the loops: head, inbox, notes and pockets swept into the one system — the capture is what makes the mind trust the system and stop rehearsing.
  4. Survives bad weeks by design: the full ritual, and the fifteen-minute degraded version for the brutal weeks — because the ritual that demands perfection dies in week four.

Example

You: Set up my weekly review; I run a company and my weeks happen to me.

Result: The ritual, Friday 4pm, thirty minutes, structured: the audit found the pattern in week three (the deep-work block died every Tuesday to the same recurring meeting — moved, permanently; no single week's review would have caught it), next week's three outcomes chosen before Monday's flood (and the calendar checked against them: the week claimed 34 hours of meetings against three outcomes needing 15 of focus — two meetings declined Friday, painlessly, instead of resented Wednesday), eleven open loops captured from head and inbox into the tracker (the mental RAM freed is half the ritual's felt value), and the drop list written: the two things explicitly parked, decided. Twelve weeks in: the review has survived three brutal weeks (the fifteen-minute degraded version exists for exactly those), and the quarter's outcomes trace cleanly to weekly choices.

Limits — please read

  • The review orients; it does not execute — its value compounds only if next week's blocks survive contact with Monday, and the audit will keep showing when they do not.
  • Honesty is the fuel: a review performed for the streak produces a journal, not a steering wheel.
  • Team and company rhythms (the stakeholder update, the planning cadence) connect to it but are their own rituals.
